Are you using Tomcat 5.2 ? The instructions in http://www.tersus.com/#Id=242 refer to Tomcat 5.5.12 .
The method of defining database connections in Tomcat was modified in version 5.5. so it makes sense that it didn't work for you.
I recommend using Tomcat 5.5.12 as described in the document . Newere versions of Tomcat (6.0.x) are also supported, but I'm not sure that our documentation completely matches all versions.
