Thanks for posting up the feature request!
I understand it's non trivial nature: But please note that this would, on heavy use sites, allow for offloading work to another box as a 'cheap' load balancing act... Much as the server and database can be separated out at the moment.
I would still prefer that it was the Open Office components rather than the full blown Open Office application, or some other modular library that could generate the same output requirements (hence my suggestion to use the Open Office modules). There must be java libraries out there that would provide the same service...
The fact that Tersus requires an older version of Open Office is also a problem/irritation: A stock Linux install usually includes the latest version of Open Office. I know it says it in the docs, but who looks at those? :P It's a bit like taking a step back in order to go forwards.
This is mainly why I am concerned over this, as well as the memory leak noted by JP.
