Hi all,
firstly, this seems like a great little tools for someone who wants to get started in programing. I say this because i am amongst that catergory. I have tried to get my head round different rad tools for years. I have tried all the different MS express products over the years and never get any further than creating a new project and adding a few items. I can never get functionally or past the hundreds of different hello world projects that are out there.
I put this down to seeing hundreds of items and functions and not having a clue what to do with them or in what order to place them. And then comes the hard (for me) part! Programming C# C++, javascript and on and on and on.
Dont get me wrong, i can build basic flash intros and animations, i have built many a website, i have created 3D virtual worlds and 3D models/items. From that i guess you see i am more graphic than programing.
I have quickly tried the first exercise but it was late and i was shattered. Other work has kept me away fom torus for about week and today i opened it up again.
I have loaded and run all the exercises, looks exciting :-) and yes i will try and break them down to study them as much as possible. This however is (for me) a long winded way of learning when i have real projects on the go that need immediate attention. I have a tendance to just click a few things and see what happen without ever having enough time to really learn or get into something concrete.
As a basic getting started test, i always try to add a button a display window and an opendialog, the problem is that i can get as far as opening a folder on the hard drive, but i can never get it to select the folder contents and display them in the window. With the intention of adding a save button so that the selcted content is then saved elsewwhere. Maybe in a folder or eventually a zip or exe file.
Is there anyone that can point me to a basic tutorial that explains how to create a basic program which has a button, opendialog, display the selected content from the HD to the new application and then save that stuff as mentioned above. This sort of tutorial seems (to me) like a very basic but full working application that goes the full learning circle leaving you with a very basic but functional appli at the end. OK not much use but as a study case would be great for learners. Hence my long winded out drawn message for help in getting started.
Thanks in advance
Chip
P.S. I will keep futur message short and to the point, where ever possible ;-p
