There's indeed no reason to install the cross platform version.
And to clear up a possible misunderstanding, there are actually 2 cross-platform installations, a studio-one (which is an alternative to the platform-specific ones, and does not entail installing tomcat), and a standalone-server install, which you'll need to perform when your application is ready for deployment.
