Thanks for the ssh access you provided, I confirm that the tomcat process is running with 'tomcat6' as owner, whereas the applications are installed with 'root' as owner.
As I wrote in my previous post, tomcat must be able to write to certain files in the applications (such as the hsqldb database files mentioned in the log), and this is not the case in your configuration. The permissions I find there are '-rwxr-xr-x', i.e. only the owner, root, has write permissions.
The simplest solution would be to assign 'tomcat6' as the owner of /tersus-applications and everything below it (instead of 'root').
