Since you did product for so many years you must have much better than my backup mechanism as cluster or hot backup :)
This is a batch file from the Internet
I changed some place (using 7-zip instead of winrar) and used in the windows scheduled task.
Feature is to scheduled backup the database (depending on windows scheduled task setting) exported ".sql" file named by datetime and compression by "7-zip" and storage.
About linux seems many better ways to scheduled backup, I have not tried.
I think that no matter what happened everything will be fix as long as the data is safe.
Of course, it is always bad for users about downtime and error . XD
