NeoHair.com product launch - powered by Tersus

Hello,

It's a great pleasure for me to announce our new online product powered by Tersus technology. We have just launched our NeoHair.com application dedicated to hair-salons and beauty industry.

We focused on promotion and ways to improve relationships with salon's clients. Our loyalty-increasing approach resulted in a system, that is documenting clients' haircut history (photographs), providing SMS and e-mail advertising, as well as must-have features, like sms reminders, discount settings and online registration for appointments.

Highlights include:

New Importer function.
You can now import tersus projects (.tersus files) directly from the file system.
Note that this feature requires setting up file association for the .tersus extension in your operating system. This is automatically performed by the latest installation kits, but if you are upgrading using the software update mechanism embedded in the studio, you will need to setup file association manually.
New Libraries function.
Allows modularization of projects, by packaging models as a .tersus file and inserting the file into other project's libraries folder.
The models in a library appear in the project's model repository as library packages (similar to the default Common library).
Improved iPhone support.
iPhone Tutorial - ShoppingList stages 1-9.
New Export iPhone Application wizard allows creation of standalone iPhone applications.
Support for full screen web applications
Improvements to Table Wizard.
Valid values and choosers, filtering per field, hidden fields
New SVN locking function.
Improves team modeling by requiring each team member to lock the package before making any change to it.

New Feature: Context-sensitive help

Starting with version 1.3.17, pressing the [F1] key in the model editor (or selecting Help in the context menu), opens context-sensitive help for the selected element's template.
The documentation from our site is displayed if your computer is online, otherwise the built-in help (also accessible via Help -> Help Contents) is used.

Note that currently some of the templates are undocumented or partially documented. We are working on bridging this gap.

Various new plugins, templates and client-side implementations - including initial client side database support (tested in Safari).

This version also includes a new validation alerting of slots (triggers/exits) having no data type defined. If you are upgrading from a previous version you may find that existing applications which previously had no validation messages, now display this new validation message. It is recommended you address these messages appropriately.

Tersus 1.3.6 announced stable

Tersus 1.3.6 has been announced stable, and a new Windows installation kit has been created (Ubuntu installation to follow). See the download page for more details.

The automatic update site (http://updates.tersus.com/1.x) has also been updated. If your studio is configured for automatic updates, you will be notified of this update.

If you are running a previous 1.3.x version, you will be able to upgrade.

If you are running version 1.2.15 or earlier, you will not be able to upgrade through eclipse's update mechanism. If you attempt to use the update mechanism, you will be notified that a new version of eclipse (3.4.x) is required. Instead you will have to perform either one of the following procedures:

Fresh install (recommended)
Download the installation kit appropriate for you platform, and perform a fresh install of the studio into a new directory. Once installed you can open your existing workspace, through File -> Switch Workspace -> Other ...
Upgrade install
Alternately, you will need to manually upgrade your existing installation from eclipse 3.3 to 3.4. See the Getting Updates page for more details.

Note that once an existing workspace has been opened using Tersus 1.3.x/eclipse 3.4.x, it cannot be opened using a previous version (since the workspace metadata is upgraded - the applications/projects are not changed, so they can be imported back into a previous version). It is therefore highly recommended that you backup your workspaces before performing an upgrade.

Our Mac users should note that this version (1.3.6) cannot be installed, since it requires JRE 6. We have removed this requirement starting with version 1.3.7, which has been released and available for download as a "latest" version.

Tersus 1.3.0 / Eclipse 3.4.1

We have released version 1.3.0 today (as a non-stable version) .

This version requires Eclipse 3.4.1 , so "regular" updates will not work on it .

We hope we'll soon be able to post instructions for upgrading Tersus from Eclipse 3.3 to Eclipse 3.4.1 . If anybody is in a hurry to try the new version, the cross platform installation method can serve as a basis (substituting Eclipse 3.4.1 for Eclipse 3.3.x and using http://updates.tersus.com/latest as the update site).

Rendezvous - Coordinating Meetings over The Web

There is a new Tersus web application available online - Rendezvous.

With Rendezvous you can coordinate meetings with several other people without downloading any software.

You simply specify a list of participants and one or more possible times (and places), and these are sent by email invitation to each participant.

Each invitation mail contains a link that the participant can click to "vote" for a preferred selection of time and place.

Google Chrome

I've downloaded and tested Google's new browser Chrome and it's realy fast, according some of my tests even a little bit faster as Firefox3.0.

Some problems I found:

html-fields are not always displayed on the correct place (most times below the rest of the page content)
browse-button is displayed a little bit to high

New in Version 1.1.3 - Table Wizard [beta version]

Table Wizard lets you create a pane with a table that corresponds to a database table or view.

The current beta version supports just basic table management at this stage:

Adding a table with any number of fields:
- Supported field types: Text, Number, Date, Date and Time, Boolean
- Support for primary key fields (including a numeric or time-stamp auto-generated primary key)
Table implementation includes:
- Automatic creation of the underlying database table
- Table display on screen
- Basic data management capabilities ('New', 'Update' and 'Delete')
Updating a table pane previously created by the wizard:
- Renaming the table
- Renaming and/or changing the type of any field
- Adding and deleting fields

Eventually, Table Wizard will replace both modules 'Table Display and Management' and 'Advanced Table Display and Management', including:

Validations (prevent duplicate field names; allow an auto-generated primary key only if the sole primary key; make database table name read-only)
Sorting and filtering by any field(s)
Paging (useful when the underlying database table includes many records)
Starting from an existing database table/view (including the ability to create several views of the same database table/view)
Support for choosers (fields whose values are restricted to a closed set of values or values appearing in some field in a database table/view)
Support for image fields (e.g. icons)
Support for memo fields ('Text Area')
Support for hierarchical data structures
Automatic management of timestamp fields (<Creation Date>, <Creation Time>, <Last Update Date>, <Last Update Time>) and user identification fields (<Creating User>, <Last Updating User>)

New in Version 1.1.3 - Quick Hosting [beta version]

To help you test how your application works over the Internet, or to share it with someone not connected to your local network, Tersus offers free hosting (for a limited duration).

Hosting is offered to registered users of the Tersus web site. Each hosted application gets a URL, and all URLs start with the user's name (application 'App' of user 'Someone' will be accessible at http://someone.tersus.com/App/).

To deploy an application:

In the Repository Explorer, select the project, press Menu (the white triangle at the upper right side of the Repository Explorer), and select Quick Hosting.
Alternatively, open any model from your project and press the Quick Hosting button (at the tool bar).
In both cases, after you confirm uploading your project to one of the Tersus servers, you should enter your user name and password, and press Deploy.

Hosting is automatic and immediate. After you press Deploy, you will get a link to the deployed application. Wait a few seconds, and then click the link to use your application online.

Each application is hosted for free for a limited duration only (currently, 30 days). You can re-deploy the application within its hosting period, and the new version will replace the previously deployed version.

Updated in Version 1.1.3 - Date and Time Input Field

Version 1.1.3 includes changes in the implementation of Date and Time Input Field, which should have a posititve impact on the performance of views which make use of this display element.

The most significant change is in the way the display is synchronized with the Date and Time element in the Date and Time Input Field. The old implementation used a Timer element to poll for changes, and this has been replaced with the new <On Element Change> event (which is fired by the platform whenever a data element is changed through modeling).

If you've already made use of the Date and Time Input Field in your existing applications, you will need to update these applications as follows:

Open your application in a version 1.1.3 studio
Validate your model - you should get Missing Element validation messages for each Date and Time Input Field model in your application.
Click the validation message to go to the offending Date and Time Input Field model
Right-click the Date and Time Input Field in the model editor, and select Add Element -> <On Element Change>
Save and Test

Note that <On Element Change> is implemented as part of the Reusable part of the Date and Time Input Field from the Common library, and is therefore protected from internal changes by the modeler.

New in Version 1.1.3 - Test Runner

Test Runner is a framework for running automatic tests, which are helpful if you want to ensure important components of your application still work as they used to in the past ("regression testing").

You can define sets of tests ("Test Suites"), each containing several tests of parts of your application ("Test Cases"), and then run all of them or any subset of them. As you run the tests, you can see which test is currently running, and for each test whether it has finished successfully or not.

Tersus 1.1.3 released

We've just released version 1.1.3, (described in http://www.tersus.com/#Id=1353 )

Note that this version is not 100% comaptible with previous versions:

If your application overrides the default index.html file, it will probably be broken because the new version loads scripts in stylesheets in a different way. The best way to create 100% custom design is to add the property html.customNavigation=true to the root system.
If your application uses Data and time Input Field, you will need to make some minor modifications. A separate page will soon be published to describe these changes.

This version will currently not be updated automatically. To update your Studio using our 'latest version' update site, go to Help->Software Updates->FInd and Install and add the update site http://updates.tersus.com/latest
